Background

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Nepal works with the Nepalese people and Government of Nepal, and other development partners to pursue equitable and sustainable human development goals to promote inclusive and resilient economic growth; improve the coherence and quality of governance across the three tiers of government and advance resilient and sustainable systems for use of natural resources through public policies, strong institutions and active community participation.

Additionally, Special attention will be paid to: (a) supporting national reforms and upholding the values of justice, human rights, equity and transparency; (b) promoting gender equality and social inclusion by supporting the strengthening and implementation of legislative and institutional frameworks related to international commitments; and (c) ensuring that the rights to economic and social security and potential of all marginalized groups are realized.

In parallel to the roll-out of its new Country Programme, 2023-27, UNDP Nepal is moving towards strategically repositioning UNDP’s contributions in support of the Sustainable Development Goals and collaboration with national development partners. Meanwhile, Nepal’s GNI continues to grow, making graduation from LDC status a scenario for which UNDP needs to begin planning and adapting to different models of development cooperation.

Duties and Responsibilities (Driver Job Vacancy)

Under the direct supervisor, the Driver provides reliable and safe driving services ensuring high accuracy of work. The Driver demonstrates a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact and the ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds. The Driver provides driving services to the NIM/DIM and Country Office UN staff, consultants and personnel. The description of responsibilities is as follows:

  • Ensures provision of reliable and secure driving services by
    • driving office vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel and delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items an
    • meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport, visa and customs formalities arrangement when required;
  • Ensures cost-savings through proper use of vehicle through accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports;
  • Ensures proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, car washing, etc;
  • Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, necessary spare parts; and
  • Ensures that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents.
  • Ensures sensitivity towards Gender and Social Inclusion issues.

Required Skills and Experience

Min. Academic Education – S.L.C pass.

Min. years of relevant Work experience – Valid Driver’s license – Minimum 2 year’s work experience as a driver – Safe driving record.

Required skills and competencies – Knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repair.

Desired additional skills – UN vehicle driving experience.

Required Language(s) (at working level) – Should be able to communicate effectively in Nepali and English.
