About the Role:

As the Home-Grown School Feeding District Coordinator, you will play a crucial role in our efforts to enhance the effectiveness and sustainability of the school meals program under a Home-Grown School Feeding (HGSF) approach. This role will involve coordinating with farmers, farmer cooperatives, schools, and local governments in Jumla to improve the management, accountability, and nutrition of the midday meals program. You will also work towards increasing the involvement of local smallholder farmers as regular suppliers of food for school meals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with local government to create a detailed implementation plan, encompassing activities such as training, customized menu planning, and local food production.
  • Facilitate regular coordination meetings with local government, school staff, farmer cooperatives, and other stakeholders to track progress.
  • Help establish a functional supply chain for school meals, working closely with local government, cooperatives, and schools.
  • Provide specialized support to cooperatives and farmers for timely production of nutrition-dense crops and diverse foods.
  • Conduct orientations and training for cooperatives and farmers in Tatopani Rural Municipality, Jumla, to improve their capacity to supply HGSF menus.
  • Identify potential collaborations and partnerships at the municipal, ward, and community level, reinforcing government capacity.
  • Integrate aspects like social protection, school health and nutrition, and local purchases from small farmers into local government planning and budgeting.
  • Support ongoing school health and nutrition activities as needed.
  • Collect and consolidate information for project and local-level planning and implementation.
  • Assist other Rural/Urban Municipalities and District Coordination Committees in planning and budgeting of activities.
  • Collaborate with government officials and stakeholders to monitor field activities and reporting.
  • Analyze data within your specific area of responsibility to contribute to accurate and timely reporting.

Qualifications:

  • Secondary school education required; a post-secondary certificate or bachelor’s degree in relevant fields (agriculture, nutrition, gender studies, etc.) is a plus.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English and Nepali.
  • At least five years of experience in implementing technical programs at the field level, with the ability to communicate with various technical teams.
  • Proven experience in networking with government, private sector, civil society, UN agencies, donors, and research institutions.
  • Emerging facilitation skills to support workshops and discussions.
  • Strong networking skills and ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing contexts and needs.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, with Nepali typing skills as a valuable asset.
  • Valid motorbike driving license is necessary.
