About Us

The Leprosy Mission (TLM) is a UK based international non-government organization active in 34 countries; started its work in Nepal from 1957 with establishment of Anandaban Hospital in Lele, the sourthern part of Lalitpur. However, from 2005 TLM Nepal has been working as independent NGO in partnership with TLM international and the Government of Nepal to provide specialist tertiary care and technical support for leprosy control programs. It also undertakes internationally recognized research into leprosy and implements disability inclusive community development programs through its own activities and strategic partnership.

Job Post: Staff Nurse

Overall purpose of Job

Provides quality nursing care in collaboration with nursing team, physician and other departments of the hospital for overall healing of the patients keeping in mind about vision and mission of The Leprosy Mission Nepal.

Key tasks and responsibilities

  • Recognizes and analyses patients’ needs
  • Plan, organize and provide comprehensive nursing care
  • Carries out all aspects of personnel care of patients such as mouth care, back care, hair care bed-bath, sponging to bed ridden patients
  • Makes beds for the patient’s comfort
  • Monitors vital signs and record it.
  • Administer IV fluids, oxygen and medicines
  • Monitors intake and output
  • Responsible for admission and discharge of the patients.
  • Prepares patients for examination.
  • Does thorough dusting to maintain cleanliness of the ward, maintains infection control and segregates appropriately biomedical waste.
  • Attains doctor rounds and carryout the doctor’s order
  • utilizes available resources in giving patient care
  • Familiarizing self with the hospital routine
  • Keeps adequate supplies and does regular inventory
  • Checks and replaces all emergency medicine
  • Assists and maintains the cleanliness of the ward
  • Assists to maintain supplies and equipment’s
  • Inform any incidents immediately to ward in-charge
  • Creates safe working environment to prevent from accidents and hazard’s
  • Acts as an in-charge in the absence of ward in charge
  • Supervises nonprofessional’s staffs
  • performs any other job that is suitably assigned by the ward in-charge
  • Participates in in-service education, CME, and CNE
  • Attains training programs as provided
  • Participates in planned ward teaching for staffs
  • Conducts health teaching to the patients and relatives
  • Keeps knowledge and skill up to date

Specific Duties

  • Attains the patients quickly in arrival and takes history, assess the needs, check vital signs as needed
  • Informed Medical Officer at the earliest
  • Prioritize the patient care on critical nature
  • Assist the doctor in stabilizing the patients and in emergency procedure e.g. CPR, Intubation, insertion of chest tube etc.
  • Fills the admission chart and transfer the patient to ward
  • Reports the MLC and make sure filled by Medical Officer
  • Document all the care in the nurse’s note
  • Provides support to mother during labor
  • Monitor fetal heart rate and mother’s vital signs
  • Measures strength, frequency and duration of contraction
  • Administer medication as per order
  • Perform PV Examination as needed
  • Performs episiotomy and repairs it
  • Conduct safe deliveries
  • Check all inventories
  • Prepare area to receive new born
  • Keep resuscitation sat ready always
  • Provide post-natal care and
  • Provide education and support to mother and families after delivery
  • Assist gynecologists’ in instrumental deliveries
  • Vaccine inventory and maintenance of temperature
  • Identification of spoiled vaccines
  • Administers vaccines with safe and proper technique
  • Impart health education about immunization, baby care, breast feeding, and weaning to the parents
  • Maintain records of immunization and prepare a monthly report
  • Knows how to operate and manage the concerned machine and equipment’s
  • Know the procedure to get it repaired or replaced if breakdown
  • Handle with care all the equipment’s
  • Observe hygiene and follows safety rules
  • Segregates biomedical waste appropriately in the ward
  • Ensures prevention of infection in the ward

Any special working conditions

  • Registered with Nursing Council

Person Specification

  • PCL level in Nursing passed from recognized institute and registered with Nursing Council, preference will be given to experienced candidate
  • Excellent knowledge of nursing care methods and procedures
  • Excellent knowledge of emergency care and Operation Theatre
  • In-depth knowledge of health and safety guidelines and procedures (sanitation, decontamination etc.) and willingness to follow them at all times.
  • A team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Responsible and compassionate
  • Outstanding organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Patient with excellent problem-solving skills
